[ He'll be waiting at the top of the stairs on the third floor! As warned, there is police tape everywhere, not exactly as a boundary to anything in particular, but just sort of strewn around haphazardly across the entirety of the common room and halls like a laser tripwire security system. ]

[Orihime arrives quickly, half of her hair curled at the ends, but still wearing her school uniform. She's got her gloves on as promised.]

[Once she sees the police tape, she stops, looking it over with curiosity. Where did they get this? It's not real, is it? Is this secretly a test, or just a goofy little game to have fun with?]

[Who even knows. She ducks under one of the yellow lines to meet Kano.]

Bon soir, Dan Number Three! Reporting for duty!

[suddenlybees]

[ Who even knows!! Kano moves through the mess of tapes easily enough, glad to see her and-- maybe forgetting what day it is and what people are preparing for. ]

At ease, Dan Number Four! Did I pull you out of another important mission?

No, not really.

[She smiles sheepishly. With everything that's happened, she hasn't even decided if she still wants to go to the dance. This seems more fun, and depending on how long this takes, she can always go later if it seems right.]

So what happened?

[suddenlybees]

[ "Not really" is still "something really," but Orihime doesn't seem to want to dwell on it, so Kano doesn't push, instead he steps close, hands on his hips as he gives the mission debriefing. ]

The location is room 303, on the door. At an indeterminate time between 8 o'clock last evening, and 6 o'clock this morning, a message of certain significance was dropped off, with no indication of who the sender is. The circumstances are suspect, and it's of dire importance we determine who it is, and whether they must be neutralized. Do you have any questions before we investigate the crime scene?

Yes! Whose room is it?

[She turns to point at the room in question. She kind of assumes it's his, but she wants to make sure so she doesn't invade someone else's quarters without permission.]

The room is the shared quarters of one Ellie Williams, and one Shuuya Kano.

[ Which is him, but maybe Orihime never learned his name, he isn't sure. ]

Any further questions?

[She knows now, thankfully, and her hand shoots right up again.]

Who was the intended recipient of the mystery message?

Intended... I guess that'd be me?

[ It was addressed to him, after all, so that even though his first thought was that somebody left a gift for Ellie, it really was his name on the letter. ]

It says "Kano" and everything, but I couldn't get enough handwriting samples the last time I sent out that recruitment call.

Oh! So that's why you put that on the list! That's very clever, I had no idea.

[She drops a gloved fist into a gloved hand, impressed.]

Can I read the note, please?

[ "Clever" is a nice way of saying insidious, but he'll take it. He nods and motions for Orihime to follow him through the maze of caution take, moving through them without so much as making them waver, until he gets to room 303.

Two plaques hang by the door, one with Ellie's full name and the other with just Kano's last name, the "Shuuya" neatly blocked out with Sharpie. Taped to the door is a card, white paper with silver lettering. ]

Careful opening it, alright? Gloves on at all time, handling the edge of the cardstock as much as you can.

[ "- I'm sorry. -present this for one free gift - anything you desire"

is what it says, unsigned. ]

[Orihime nods, following his instructions as she carefully examines the card. It doesn't seem particularly high or low, so no one of extreme height. That rules out Rex and Gongenzaka.]

And you received it just this morning? I got a package too, and so did Tatsumaki-chan. The handwriting might be the same...it definitely seems similar but I don't know for sure.

It's weird, though. This person must really want you to figure out who they are!

Yep, that's right~ Early this morning! I saw it when I was coming back to my room. The only other fingerprints on it should be mine!

[ That was careless of him, but the person must be either really stupid to not leave a name, or they're purposely being a dick watching Kano run around on a wild goose chase, and he's inclined to believe the latter. Several texts later, he decided he might as well take matters into his own hands, and with Orihime living in the other dorm, she was the best person to turn to. ]

You said you two got something too, though? Did it come with a letter? What'd it say?

Just my name. It's in calligraphy, and it's really pretty!

[It didn't name the sender, but she knows who it is based on the thoughtfulness of the gift. And that's why she'll assist him, it's more fun if he figures it out on his own.]

Maybe other people got secret gifts like that too. At first I thought it was a secret admirer, but since my best friend received a gift too, that's probably not it. Unless they're a two-timer!

[ Kano will never figure it out, because out of everybody he knows, Toki is the one person who doesn't owe him any apologies. It's the other way around. ]

A two-timer or a three-timer, we'll have to find out, won't we~ But how exciting~! Let's go see if the handwriting matches! There doesn't seem to be any other clues here, so let's head over to your room first~

[ As for the letter, he leaves it hanging on the door, but he does take out his phone and snap some pictures, both the outside with his name and the inside with the message. ]

[She maneuvers her way back through the tape, definitely starting to enjoy the game. This is a lot more fun than dressing up!]

[The Aube dorm might be far, but at least she's on the first floor, and hers is the first room, too. She opens the door, slipping her shoes off instinctively as she walks inside and goes to her study desk where she left the package.]

Eeto...yes, it's still here!

[Proudly she presents the card for his analysis.]

[ Seeing Orihime take her shoes off, Kano teeters on the threshold of the door, because he's wearing boots and doesn't really expect to be invited indoors, especially if her roommate is also in. But he can see well enough, holding his phone up in front of one eye and trying to match the letters on Orihime's card with the other.

...It doesn't really help that the only overlapping letters their name shares is the O, and O's aren't very distinctive in their own right. ]

Hmm~ I wonder if this is enough to go by? Is this all that was left?

Well, I'm not sure where Tatsumaki put hers. But you could ask her! And there are probably others.

[She doesn't mind letting him keep the card.]

Can you think of many people who did something that hurt your feelings?

[ He takes the card and carefully pockets it- if anything, he's always looking to expand his handwriting sample collection. But in response to Orihime's question, he shakes his head, immediately and assuredly. ]

My feelings don't get hurt. That's why I'm having trouble figuring this out, you know?

[She tips her head, regarding him curiously. Is he really so thick-skinned? That's a good quality she wishes she had.]

Did anyone break any of your belongings? Or reject your love?

[ It's more that his feelings can't get hurt, because if something's said against him, he's more than willing to accept they're well deserved. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing... ]

Hm, well... I don't really own much to break, and I haven't confessed my love to anybody recently, I think? ...Maverick said we aren't friends, but I think he was kidding??

I see...I don't really know him, but that doesn't really seem like the sort of thing he'd apologize for with a gift.

Was it delivered while you were at class?

[ Right, he's absolutely sure Maverick wouldn't do something like this, and he'd more or less confirmed it after talking with him too. ]

Ah, well... It was delivered during class time, probably! [ He doesn't go to class, so technically the answer is no, but also yes. ] Ah- do you think it's a teacher? Somebody who had their lesson planning block and wasn't bound to a classroom at the time?

Maybe... But more likely it was someone who skipped class. So either a slacker, or someone who's sick right now!
